Are you getting a little too comfortable, and maybe too easily distracted, by your new remote work environment? It sounds super convenient to wander downstairs, make breakfast, break open the work laptop and sit at the kitchen table working while you eat. While great in theory, this is a recipe for disaster. You are setting yourself up to get distracted; by other people, or even just wanting to tidy up your kitchen or clean the dishes.
The best way to improve your productivity is to set up a work-only area. An extra room is ideal, but even a desk with an “I’m Working” sign will do the trick. Make sure to keep your work area clean and keep it separate from areas where you relax and connect with family. If you keep this area as a sacred space only for your work, you’ll find others will respect it as well, and your productivity will dramatically improve.
This one step alone can make the difference between a productive day and a “blah” day.
